What is a hybrid CDC?
A hybrid career development course (CDC) is one that consists of both paper and multimedia. The paper portion must cover all Specialty Training Standard (STS) items so that the material can be used as a reference for Specialty Knowledge Testing (SKT).
The multimedia portion enhances or augments the course. By enhancement, we mean teachingas interactively as possiblethose topics or specialty training standard (STS) items where students are having trouble learning by just reading the text. Enhancement can take the form of less interaction but with visual stimulation, like video or animation, to more interaction, like games or simulations.
As a simple example, if the text teaches how to change a tire, then a video or animation of someone changing a tire would enhance learning. But, you have to ask yourself, Are my students having trouble changing tires on the job? If the answer is no, then you wouldnt put your time and effort into developing multimedia for that particular procedure.
Getting started
As you will see (and come to realize), it takes a team to develop multimedia enhancements. Whether you are a chief functional manager, CDC author, instructional technology (IT) unit member, training manager, or a member of the AFIADL staff, each has a specific role to play.
If you need help getting started, or get stuck somewhere along the way, contact the Blended Learning team at AFIADL (334)416-2001, 1982, or 3174) or e-mail afiadl.ait@maxwell.af.mil. We'll be glad to lend a hand.
