What is a “hybrid” CDC?

A hybrid career development course (CDC) is one that consists of both paper and multimedia. The paper portion must cover all Specialty Training Standard (STS) items so that the material can be used as a reference for Specialty Knowledge Testing (SKT).

The multimedia portion enhances or augments the course. By enhancement, we mean teaching—as interactively as possible—those topics or specialty training standard (STS) items where students are having trouble learning by just reading the text. Enhancement can take the form of less interaction but with visual stimulation, like video or animation, to more interaction, like games or simulations.

As a simple example, if the text teaches how to change a tire, then a video or animation of someone changing a tire would enhance learning. But, you have to ask yourself, “Are my students having trouble changing tires on the job?” If the answer is “no,” then you wouldn’t put your time and effort into developing multimedia for that particular procedure.
