NATO's offensive air campaign, launched on 30 August 1995, allowed NATO air power to do what up until then had been ruled out by the UN: Take out large parts of the Bosnian Serb integrated air defense system.  The air campaign was sparked by the Serb shelling of a Sarajevo marketplace.
