Fairchild Research Information Center Chat Reference

Chat hours are from 0900-1100 and 1330-1530 Monday through Friday.

Important information about our Chat Reference Service:

• You must have an AF Instant Messenger (AFIM) ID set up to use our chat reference service. If you need to set up your ID, log into the AF Portal and click on AFIM.


• This service is intended to provide short answers, not extended research. The librarian may request that you either call or come into the library.

How to access Chat Reference:

1. Log into AFIM and go to the AF Collaboration Center by clicking on the "AFCC" icon on the toolbar.
2. On the left-hand menu, click on "List of Chat Rooms." This will bring up a list of chat rooms currently in use.
3. Click on the chat room titled "AU Libraries Reference Service". Be Patient! It may take a moment or two for the chat room window to open. Note: If there is not a librarian currently in the chat room, "AU Libraries Reference Service" will not display on this list.
4. Get ready for a whole new type of library experience! A librarian will invite you to an IM session where you will be able to ask your questions.
