Lessons Learned from Kosovo
"The paramount lesson learned from Operation Allied Force is that the well-being of our people must remain our first priority."
Deputy Secretary of Defense John Hamre and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force Gen. Joe Ralston are leading a review of Operation Allied Force operation. The purpose of the review is to learn how to sustain and build upon what went right in the operation and how to improve on identified shortcomings.
The review is still underway, but an initial assessment was provided in the prepared joint statement presented by Secretary of Defense William S.Cohen and Gen. Henry H. Shelton, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, before the Senate Armed Services Committee, October 14, 1999. This Web Special provides a summary of some of the key insights derived from the ongoing lessons learned effort.
