JOINT PROFESSIONAL MILITARY EDUCATION

This is a selected bibliography of materials on this topic that are available in the Naval War College Library. The original intention of the compilation was to just include some titles directly related to JPME. However, upon examination of the materials, it was found to be necessary to also include the broader and related aspects of military education; and additionally, include information on the emerging popularity of distance education. These topics sometimes do overlap.

Professional military education provides the necessary learning experiences at all levels of one’s military career, which is especially important in an age of rapidly changing technology. The principle of Joint Professional Military Education is that unity of command has been the basis of successful military organizations and service interoperability. An educational focus can help to strengthen the commitment to joint operations. It can likewise prepare the military for meeting the demands of the new technologies, and for meeting the demands of new world missions.
