Jim Thorpe Competition
Each year students from the Air War College travel to the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to compete in three days of intense competition. In addition to the Air War College, other schools which may compete are the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF), Army War College, Naval War College, and National War college.
The athletes engage on several playing fields
- Basketball
- Bowling
- Golf
- Racquetball
- Running (5-mile run, 2-mile relay, and a 5k run)
- Soccer
- Softball
- Tennis
- Volleyball
Points are awarded in each competition. When the dust settles, the overall winner is named.
The games are named in honor of the great American athlete and Olympic champion, Jim Thorpe, who attended the Carlisle Indian Industrial School at Carlisle Barracks from 1904 to 1913 and achieved success in several sports.
