Some important aspects of housing are highlighted below.

Application for Privatized Base Housing. If you plan to apply for privatized base housing, complete the DD Form 1746, which you can obtain from your local housing office or download from the Internet.

Housing applications will be accepted at anytime throughout the year. However, we encourage students desiring to live on Maxwell AFB to submit their housing applications prior to 30 March in order to receive priority consideration for available housing units.

Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN) Website: AHRN.com is a nationwide joint service, DoD-sponsored web site offering a 24/7/365 single source of available housing to incoming military and their families. The web site directly connects service members with local property managers via the internet often facilitating a door-to-door move saving time, expenses and headaches. Request for Temporary Lodging Facilities (TLF). There are only 30 TLF units available and they are assigned strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want to reserve a TLF unit, we strongly recommend you make your request as soon as possible. If you have any questions on this, please call the Maxwell Billeting Office (DSN 493-2055 or Commercial (334) 953-2055).

BAH Waiver Process

While we encourage our students to attend Air War College with their families, we understand your decision will ultimately depend on what works best for you and your family. If you decide to attend AWC in an unaccompanied status, the Secretary of the Air Force has authorized a BAH waiver process when PCSing for 12 or fewer months to professional military education, technical training and career education. If interested in this program, you may request authorization IAW AFI 36-3020, Family Member Travel, paragraph 2.3.3 to receive station allowances based on the dependent’s location, old Permanent Duty Station (PDS) or new PDS, whichever is more equitable to you. In exchange, you agree to limited PCS allowances to include only a personal/professional shipment equivalent to unaccompanied baggage and without-dependent rate dislocation allowance (DLA), temporary lodging, and per diem. You can apply for this program before you depart your old PDS or after you arrive at Maxwell; however, we highly encourage you to apply before you depart your old duty station. I further agree that my shipping allowance is limited to the unaccompanied baggage weight allowance to include my professional books, papers, and equipment.
