Building toward the Future

Certainly, we are living in interesting times, and although numerous challenges face the Air Force today, we have a unique opportunity to shape our future. As the first online-only issue of ASPJ launches in January 2012, the Air Force--indeed, the entire nation--must deal with a period of fiscal austerity. Although not unprecedented, such circumstances are new to many Air Force people who have served during a time when resources were relatively abundant. As we move forward, we must remain undaunted by such issues and embrace the opportunities that present themselves, building our way to the Air Force of tomorrow.

    We must look at our 5-year or 10-year plan. What learning culture, in AETC, do want in the next generation of Airman? Distance Learning, while cost efficient, can have drastically improved results with minor tweaks--better apps and more diligent administrators. Instead of a clothing allowance, what about a technology allowance for our Airmen? What about an AF version of an App store?

    I think Gene Rice jr, is absolutely right in his approach. I just want to highlight that there are many international readers of APJ that cannot afford e readers, or simply they are not available in certain countries. Print versions can be kept in public spaces and be read by a vast majority of people interested in air power doctrines

    There appears to be a large disconnect at the squadron level. I see numerous plasmas on the wall with chords hanging to the ground because they are in abundance and we can’t use them? Another example is the extremely expensive printer that we don’t need. These are primarily used only to print notams and mission planning items that we have been printing from standard desktop printers.
