The Air National Guard (ANG) is administered by the National Guard Bureau, a joint bureau
of the Departments of the Army and Air Force, Washington, DC. The
state and federal mission is to provide well-trained and equipped
men and women to augment the active force during the national emergencies
of war and provide assistance during natural disasters and civil disturbances.
ANG members serve under the command authority of their respective
state and territorial governors until mobilized but are not a part
of the worldwide pool of Air Force manpower until mobilization occurs.
Education and training opportunities are a primary reason for successful
recruitment of quality individuals in the Guard. Todays global
environment demands transition to a smaller, more efficient, quality
force; and education of today's Air Force.
