Commissioning is a great achievement and a life changing experience for officer candidates and their families. The Academy of Military Science welcomes families, friends and commanders to join us during week six for the commissioning events on Thursday and Friday of graduation week to honor the accomplishments of the soon-to-be second lieutenants!
There will be an Open House for family and friends on Thursday before commissioning. Guests are welcome to visit their Officer Candidate (OC) in the morning where they may tour the campus and facilities. Guests are encouraged not to arrive prior to 0930. Families can have lunch on base with their OC at the Dining Facility, Golf Course, Base Exchange Food Court or Officers Club between 1100 and 1230. There will be a formal presentation for all guests from 1300 to 1500. Officer Candidates WILL NOT be permitted to leave campus during the duty day, so please make all necessary arrangements.
The Awards Banquet will be held Thursday evening from 1730-2100 with a social hour from 1730-1830. The awards banquet will be held at the Embassy Suites hotel in downtown Montgomery, AL. Parking is free (in a garage behind the hotel on Molton St). The hotel is offering a military rate to guests electing to stay there and has blocked off a limited number of rooms (GROUP RATE CODE IS ANG). The attire for civilians is cocktail dress or suit, the attire for military is mess dress for officers; semi-formal or mess dress for enlisted. Children over the age of 12 are welcome to attend the banquet. Student protocol officers will work to provide child care options for those under the age of 12.
Friday morning we welcome family, friends and commanders to take part in the state oaths beginning at approximately 0700. The commissioning ceremony will begin at 1000 with a parade to follow at 1230. Children are welcome at all of Friday's events. The earliest flight departure time for students is 1500 on Friday. Business casual is acceptable attire for civilian guests for the commissioning ceremony and parade, military members should be in the uniform of the day. If a military member is administering the state oath they are required to be in service dress.
The number of guests allowed for each student is based on class size. The typical number of guests is four. Invitations will be sent during the first two weeks of the program.
