Welcome to the Spaatz Center for Officer Education.
The Spaatz Center is unique in DoD in that it consolidates at one location all the officer Professional Military Education (PME) for an entire career, from lieutenant to colonel. One of the benefits from this is the cross-generational mentoring and sharing of experiences and lessons learned.
While each of our schools and organizations - AWC, ACSC, SOC, IOS, and our centers - has its own identity, we share a common goal to turn out the best possible officers at each stage of their careers, ready to lead the Air Force into the future. The Spaatz Center exists to unite them in that vision, and support them with whatever resources they need to achieve that goal.

Spaatz Center - Schools & Support

Air War College (AWC)
Air War College is the Air Force's senior professional military education (PME) school for officers. Each year over 250 colonels and lieutenant colonels attend - from the Air Force and other U.S. military services, as well as from 45 other nations. Also attending are equivalent grade civilians from U.S. government agencies.

Air Command and Staff College (ACSC)
ACSC is the Air Force's intermediate level officer PME. Each year it has over 600 majors and major-equivalent civilians from the Air Force, other U.S. services, U.S. government agencies, and over 70 other nations.

Squadron Officer College (SOC)
SOC includes Squadron Officer School (SOS) for lieutenants and captains who've had at least one assignment and have some experiences to share. SOC also includes the Air and Space Basic Course for new lieutenants, to "blue" them into the Air Force environment.

International Officer School (IOS)
IOS is the lead-up course to prepare all international officers for attending AWC, ACSC, and SOC. With its help they are able to hit the ground running when integrated into the academic culture with the US officers in each school.

Education Support Squadron (ESS)
The ESS has consolidated support responsibilities for all the schools. It is also responsible for ensuring sharing of resources and coordination of planning between schools.
